30 Dips, Zero Chemicals
Sustainability in fashion is often just a buzzword. Brands print "eco-friendly" on a tag because they used 10% recycled polyester. But true sustainability isn't about tweaking a modern industrial process; it's about returning to a time before industry existed.
At CloudGauze, we don't manufacture our silk. We cultivate it. The production of authentic Xiangyunsha (Mud Silk) relies on a 500-year-old technique that uses zero synthetic dyes, zero heavy metal fixatives, and zero electricity-hungry machinery.
The Ingredients: Dirt, Roots, and Sun
If you check the "ingredients label" of our fabric production, you will find only three things:
The Juice (Shu Liang)
The Dioscorea cirrhosa is a wild yam tuber that grows in the subtropical forests of Guangdong. We juice this root to extract a nutrient-rich, sticky sap loaded with tannins. It smells sweet, earthy, and raw. This is our only "dye".[12]
The River Mud
Harvested from the bed of the Pearl River, this mud is unique to our geography. It is rich in iron minerals but free from the pollutants of modern industry. When this cool, grey mud meets the yam-soaked silk, a natural alchemy occurs.
The Solar Reactor
We don't use boilers or chemical setting agents. We use the sun. The silk is spread out on grassy fields to bake. The UV rays catalyze the reaction between the tannins and the iron, locking in the color permanently.
The production of Xiangyunsha is completely circular. The leftover yam pulp is returned to the soil as compost, and the water used to rinse the mud is returned to the river, often cleaner than when it started. It is a closed-loop system designed by nature itself.[14]
Why It Matters for Your Skin
Chemical dyes often leave trace residues of formaldehyde and heavy metals on fabrics, which can irritate sensitive skin. Because Xiangyunsha is processed using medicinal roots and mineral mud, it is naturally hypoallergenic.
The yam juice is historically used in Chinese medicine for its antibacterial properties, and the mud coating provides a natural barrier against UV radiation. CloudGauze is not just clothing; it is skincare.
